Differential Threads

I ran into this Mr Pete 222 video about differential threads:
I'd never heard of them before and had to watch the video a couple times to understand how this worked. I finally realized that the smaller, finer thread was pulling the movable piece as the larger, coarser thread was pushing reducing the movement to the delta in the thread pitches.

Depending on how they are done, it can increase the travel exponential, too.  If you are lucky to have a old South Bend lathe telescopic screw steady rest, its equipped with differential screws.
