Well, it's planted. I didn't crank the head back up because I was exhausted. Long day... 13 hours.
6 hours of driving.

It's a Racer, I'm told they're made by Acer, a decent quality mill. Made in 1993, the newest thing in the shop!
40 taper spindle. 12"x54" table. Power X, power knee, 3 or 5 hp, I don't remember. Mitutoyo DRO. Some parts look to be Bridgeport clone, the Y handle mount, for example. Looks like a BP Y power feed would pop right on.
It's in pretty good shape. Ways don't appear to be worn. There is some grime or rust on the bottom back or the table dovetail and I noticed the dovetail on the ram is rusty, but the scraping marks are still visible. I will likely tear it down to clean all that up. Everything is very oily tho.
It's a heavy damn machine...
Seller gave me an ER40 collet chuck with a 3/4" collet. So I'm not dead in the water until I get some tooling. Christmas is coming...

I emailed the seller, he's not sure it had one when he recieved the mill. It appears it's just a screw on grille. I have some perf sheet metal I can make something from.

Wow thatís a nice mill.   Box ways on Y is nice.  The DRO looks great too.
From the side pic on truck you can notice how much more massive it is than the BP.
All the little stuff can be fixed.

So you roast your own coffee?
I assume itís a whole lot better than the pre ground wood chip laden stuff from the grocery store I consume!!

Not yet, this will be a new experience for me.
It was getting to the point that I'm having trouble finding the coffee I like on local store shelves.
I've considered getting into coffee roasting for awhile and since green coffee beans will keep for 6-12 months, I wanted to give it a shot and stock up before the shortages get worse.
I worked with a few guys that roasted their own coffee and had the chance to try some of theirs.
Another factor that made me pull the trigger is price. The coffee I buy runs anywhere from $12 to $15 per pound, depending on the store. I can buy the green coffee beans from $4 to $8 per pound plus shipping. If the roaster last me a couple years, it  will pay for itself in savings, based on the amount I drink.

Thatís funny I started stockpiling the crappy coffee I drink (why I like it not sure) when the pandemic hit along with a small stash of food water and TP.  Iím no prepper by any means but having enough coffee is life and death hahaha.

I spent many a year drinking Folgers along with the stuff the military doled out while I was in. Got spoiled by the coffee snobs at work.
I considered just stockpiling coffee, but it seems to get stale fast once roasted. I figured this way I could stockpile and still have fresh roasted coffee.
I'd consider SWMBO & I somewhere between homesteaders and preppers. We can a lot of meats, fruits, and vegetables along with trying to keep the freezers stocked.
I hope things get better, but figure its better to have and not need than need and not have.

when I was touring around West V, Pennsylvania, LA, Kentucky I came to the conclusion that Americans had no idea what coffee was.Starbucks confirmed that in spades. :)) Roasting your own is the way to go as long as you have good beans. My morning coffee is a triple maximum shot my machine will make with a generous dollop of salted butter topped up with thick cream no sugar, awesome.

Still debating that Esab welder but holding for the time being.  They raised the price $250  No surprise we all know why.
Lately Iím shopping for a completed upper for the 80% lower I just finished.   May build it as a nightstand pistol.  7-10Ē barrel because hearing loss right!  So many options itís overwhelming.  Fun tho.

We need to start a coffee thread but for now we hijack awayÖI usually only ďuseĒ coffee once a day.
3-4 heaping tablespoons of the shit grounds in a little hotel size brewer for one travel mug.   Black.   No light makes it thru.
Itís stiff but mmmmmm.

Well the new Orbital workstation I picked up a few weeks ago is working great with my CAM software.  Unfortunately my existing Solidworks home use license is only good on the old puter till it dies.   Ive been toggling computers between CAD modeling and CAM and itís a real pita.   Rather than upgrading the welder I posted about I decided to bit the bullet and get a perpetual Solidworks license.   Had to call several resellers willing to do it without the ďsubscriptionĒ plan but one finally agreed.   Got the 30% off promo they are running for December and fully intend to use the 179 deduction for 2021
