I'll be finishing tomorrow evening, now. I would have finished today but Jonathan stopped helping me at 10 this morning. Lol.
Its 22x14. Pretty basic, but it will literally be the only thing new and fresh in the entire property (I guess aside from my shop...) But Heather, Jonathan's wife, is my wife's best friend. She's been having a very hard time during all the Covid stuff (bad anxiety), and asked me how much a deck would cost - somewhere nice for her be able to go and sit and relax, somewhere clean and new. So, I basically gave it to her. She's paying me pretty much only materials. I'm ecstatic to help her. The deck will be a bit of therapy.
Jonathan was supposed to help me all weekend to finish but he got bored of helping at 10 today so, I was on my own baking in the sun and didn't finish. So, no photo. Lol.
Well, here's the progress at noon yesterday.

They've been very good to me over the past year. Sorry Ray, there's a looooong back story. This family's farm is where my shop is. Jonathan has given me no short of 10 grand to help repair/restore and build my shop. Yes, they're his buildings, but he didn't have to do any of it. The single reason I have a shop to call my own is because of him.
His wife, Heather, is my wife's best friend - we're all friends. I spent 8 months fixing this old farmhouse 5 years ago so they could move into it (and well paid ). Heather has been having a very difficult time over the past few months (mentally) with the Covid. My wife and her work together. This deck space was meant to be a retreat for her to relax. I'm helping a friend find some peace. Its the "work for beer" deal. Yes, Jonathan was supposed to help, but I wasn't surprised when he stopped. Lol.
But, this is Heather's deck, she's paying for it.

Wood is pressure treated spruce. In Sienna colour. This is what we have available up here. Its not bad.

As of the end of Sunday I left off at the railings on both sides and the one on the closest corner (to the camera). We’re doing fences this next two weeks, so my truck is loaded for pressure treat kind of work, so things go quickly. This evening I did the stairs, ran some more railings, and capped the closest railings (to the camera), then ran out of light. Need some more 4x4’s to do railings down the stairs, finish the balusters and railing caps, and the skirt.

Really nice work Shawn, not to detract from it in any way, but personally I've never liked decks. I've had a few on different houses and they never were used. Not one to sit in the blazing sun. The house now has a wrap around veranda covering 3 sides. Nice to be out of the sun and rain. About 2/3rds of it is screened, nice to be out of the bugs. We spend a lot of time out there in the spring summer and fall. Currently building a cabinet to hold a three burner propane stove from a camper, will do all our cooking out there this summer. All the old farm houses here had summer kitchens for that reason.

I like the spindles.    Way nicer looking than the typical 2x2’s
Staining a zillion spindles all 4 sides is a beeotch.
