More calculations/estimates on the 4340M

7.25" diameter
6" OAL
4.75" remaining
48.8 pounds calculated

Package size: 9" x 7" x 7"
Package weight: 55 pounds
UPS Canada Standard From Shawn to Los Angeles area = $165.08 CAD x .75 = $123.81 USD
YMMV

Great offer Shawn. If I was traveling to Orono, my suspension would be sagging on the way home.  :93:

Almost right on the nose.
They are 6 3/4" rounds, about 6" long, 4 1/2" cross remaining.
48 lbs. Package weight, 48.6lb.

Shawn,

They arrived all intact.  That was very nifty how you packed them.  I'll have to remember that the next time I ship something heavy.  Now to find a big enough boat to use these on.   :)

Well they're heavy and not friendly to cardboard. And had a bunch of 1/4" paneling laying around from previous cabinet jobs. Jimmy's is already packed up the same way. I didn't want anything busting out during shipping.

Other Ken, there's lots...
Typical shipping via UPS (turned out to be the cheapest) is about $100~  for two billets/40lbs

Not heavy enough to be an anchor. If you wanna pay $300 shipping, the 4340 is certainly heavy enough....

Yeah, I couldn't believe there wasn't any damage to the box at all! I should have taken a picture or two and post.  That paneling and 2 x 6 block did their job.  My daughter retrieved the box from the front porch and said "What the heck did you buy this time?  It's sure not a gun part" Lol..

The 2x6 just happened to be the perfect spacer between the two billets.

Lol. Since I have the shop I don't get the "what did you buy this time" anymore. Haha. Everything gets delivered there.

Shawn, My first thoughts for this material is to cut it into manageable rectangular pieces on the vertical bandsaw.  From that, put it into my inventory of aluminum stock for later.   I really like the way 7075 cuts.  On the mill, I can cut it just like I cut 4130/4140 but much faster.  And the chips it makes are unbelievable.  It don't gum up like 6061 does.  I don't have to use aluminum cut endmills either.  The other reason for 7075 aluminum is its strength.  I can use it in place of some of the 41xx materials I normally use.

And it's an alloy, it has heat treat properties.
No idea what they are, but I'm told its regularly hardened.
