Accurate small diameter bore measument

Are there any methods to accurately measuring a small bore diameter other than plug gauges ?

How about a conical taper cone hole gauge (not sure of proper nomenclature?). The watch/clock maker style (much higher grade!). The only problem is the hole cannot have any chamfer or your readings can be in error.

Kind of a general question, but will apply for measuring the chamber for an air rifle concept I have.
Will need to measure the bore diameter for sub 0.35" diameter holes.

Small hole gauge. Some people could call it a ball gauge.
