I'm running it in, slowly increasing the tension. I'm sure I don't have to, but for some reason it feels necessary.

Hopefully this shaft will ride fine for another couple million rotations.

So, more aircraft parts. No idea what these are. What I do know is the ID is undersized. Stainless probably.
Set up the CNC lathe, spent way too much time (as normal) trying to make Fushion 360 do what I want it to do.
But what I did learn after 74 parts, increasing the ID to spec with an 8 tenths tolerance, is this machines pretty darn alright! It kept a 2-3 tenths range through most of the parts. In reality, it very well may have been better but I really don't have very good high precision ID measuring tools. Snap gauges are good, but I don't really like them under .001" range. Especially on a shallow bore.

Either way, good learning job. It's good to know the repeatability of this machine.

Nerve wracking tho... 8 tenths tolerance. And not a tolerance I could just ignore this time... Especially needing a very good surface finish.

Nothing new in the shop. Too busy with new house construction.
That's me up in the trusses on the right.

What an incredibly unusual way to frame. Are post and beam constructed houses common where you are?

Also, I *once* .... worked on a slab on grade house, it was also very unusual.

Welcome to someone who constructed north of the frost line. Lol.

Jimmy, are you building what we call a 'shouse'?  A shouse is a pole barn structure where part of it is shop, and part of it is partitioned off and finished off as living quarters. We cannot build them in the seven county metropolitan area around Minneapolis/St. Paul, but many of the rural counties do allow them. Some of them are pretty neat!

Not a "shouse". It's termed a hybrid cob/straw bale house. Here's a video link that shows a similar construction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rL7HDA2sPS4&list=PLxJa2E7AZDHn_l-dCoc230MRU5B8Vz3yC&index=12
Our design is different as it has a crawl space instead of a concrete slab. When finished, it will have 3 post frame rings. The 6x6 post frame you see in the picture, the next will be a 4x4 post frame on the deck that supports the straw bale stack along with the door & window bucks. The 3rd will be another 6x6 post frame for the wrap-around porch roof.
Once the straw bales are stacked, they will be coated inside and out with about 3" of cob (mixture of sand, clay, and straw) making the walls about 2 feet thick. According to my research, we should end up with breathable walls with an R-40+ insulation value. The crawl space was poured using ICF blocks that also tout an R-40 insulation value and a radiant heating system in the floor.
If all goes as planned, we should end up with a very strong, fairly cheap, extremely energy efficient house.
Shawn, post frame homes are not common here, although there are a few houses built fairly recently that are basically framed in pole barn style.

This is fascinating and goes against 99.99% of what I've been taught... but, welcome to the frost belt..
The idea of using straw and mud as insulation is bonkers to me.

Keep posting about this build. I'm *very* interested/curious!
