New TS Crank For The SBL13
« on: December 20, 2018, 06:34:25 PM »
The handle for the TS crank was missing when I acquired the lathe, I just lived with it, thought about drilling the busted piece and install a new. A gentleman from Oklahoma sent me an early Christmas present, this apron crank and the lever type clutch assembly. I thought this would be easier to implement. Surprisingly, the TS screw shaft is the as the one in the apron. I still have to drill and tap the tapered pin holes so I can cinch it to shaft.

The crank handle being heavy, the crank tends to rotate to the bottom. My Bubba engineering, tends to balance handle, but those lead weights are ugly as sin, I am looking for a nicer looking solution.

The crank is larger than the original one, but I can live with that.

Looks great! Maybe fill in the two web holes with metal and then Bondo and paint? Did a similar when I made the handles in the pic.

Here's a hand wheel that is balanced. It also will whack your fingers if you spin it too fast and try to stop it.
