My 3 jaw does not have bolt on jaws, but I think I can work with that and make a bushing or sabot type thing to center the gear like other have mentioned. Just haven't gotten to this yet.

If the gear wobbles, the bore would have to be cocked a bit.  How about aligning up the gear using a laser indicator right at the
edge of the teeth.  Just by watching something rotating in a chuck you can tell quite easily if the gear is running true or not. 
I like the idea of boring the center to size after getting it chucked up.

I will be addressing this gear at some point in the coming weeks. I have started ordering parts and thinking about the rebuild. So far I've fitted a solid tool post to remove the compound in order to work on it.
Eventually I will pull the suspect gear and rebore it.
So far, I like the idea of boring out an exact gear sized bore and pressing the gear into it but like the idea of a sabot. I don't think I'll need a huge amount of holding power, just enough to turn out the old brass bushing and retrue the bore.
