Making a chuck adapter for a 6-jaw chuck

I recently picked up a 6" 6-jaw chuck in nice condition.  Needed a good cleaning which I did and now working on making a chuck adapter to adapt the chuck to my 9" South Bend lathe.  I bought a 6" chuck adapter from The Little Machine Shop several years ago and never did use it, now it's getting used. Here's a couple pictures of what I have done so far.  All the lathe work is done ready to go to the mill for all of the holes to be drilled and tapped.

Looks good. Can't positively see in the pictures, but I think I can see the set thru screws. Is my observation correct?

 Nice 6 way, would like to own one, reading indicates they are mainly. To prevent marking a work piece or holding thin wall tubing.

Read nothing in regards to the accuracy being any tighter than a 3 way..... that made my wallet happy.  LOL

Loooookin goooood! I remember having a hard time finding a L00 backplate for a set-tru chuck. That kind of chuck needs a boss to push on with those 4 adjusting screws. The Little Machine Shop was the only source that I could find at that time with an unfinished extra thick backplate…Dave

Yeah, the 6-jaw is no more accurate than a 3-jaw.  Just more holding power in a sense and definitely for holding thin wall parts.

question in one pic it looks like it has the hub set up for the set true on it then in another pic it has a recess where the set true hub should be.   Is that a two part setup for the set true.   If so That may be what I need to do for one of mine.

That is a two part chuck adapter.  See the picture below.

Here's the chuck almost fully mounted.  The only socket head cap screws I have available are 3-1/2" long, a 1/2" too long.  So I'm going to set up and cut off 1/2" on three to finish up this project.

Have my test bar chucked up and have the T.I.R. within 0.0005" at the chuck and about 0.0015-0.0020" out on the end, which is sticking out about 10".  Good enough with the girls I go out with.

I am not Ken, but these are good, Thompson linear shaft. I use them, look at the spec.

Right, shaft material. I think that's what he mentioned. And I was going to ask my metal supplier if they had any good, true shaft material in drops.

I do know they have shaft material there, I've seen lots of it in the plastic protector sleeves. I'll shoot an email off now so I don't forget and I'm sure I'll hear back Tuesday.
