Nice find Derrick.  Would love to find one like that for my shop.  I don't know where I would put it, I'd find a place for it!

That price was a steal! And the spindle business end is threaded? It’s not a Morse taper?

The spindle has a Jacobs taper with threads above it the threaded collar keeps the jt from separating, I had to put a new chuck on it I found it on eBay it’s a new Jacobs 0-1/2 thread on chuck made in China, couldn’t find US nos chuck.

I think I understand? Some of the older Craftsman drill presses had that arrangement. You used the threaded collar to push off whatever was on the taper. And I guess it held the stuff onto the taper as well. My memory can’t recall, sorry…Dave

So maybe look for a chuck that goes to a vintage Craftsman drill press? I will look in my piles, I recall having one or two?

I don't!! Never seen a JT/threaded combination chuck mount. Also surprised a machine of that size and quality doesn't have an MT socket spindle.

It's offered in the floor model one.  Not really sure on the bench top one.  Probably not.

Yes, My older Craftsman DP has that same chuck and collar.  And the chuck key has a small counter turn on the end that is used for torquing the collar to remove the chuck or install it.

Does you new chuck key have that feature?
