My four legged buddy will always be close to heart. I know yours will be too. I have her under an oak tree in the back. I go and sit next to her on occasion with a beer, cry my brains out, finish the beer and that’s all I can do.

I offered to bury her in the back. Ashlee wanted to keep her next to her cat and brother in her office.

You had the dog cremated?

She will be, if not already. She also had her 15 year old cat cremated.

Sorry for your loss Bill, Shawn.  If you guys are like me, then that is a family member and it takes a lot of time to heal that wound.  We never had any kids so they were so much more than pets to us.  You both gave them a great life, and that's all they asked for.

Well... It's just after 5:30am. I haven't slept at all. I'm currently driving home to pick up my wife to go put our other Shephard down...
He was acting weird today, then this evening started throwing up,band it progressively just got worse. Took him to the vet hospital around 3:30. They found a mass. It's huge. It's destroyed everything. It grew in a matter of months. He had all his yearly workup and blood tests done not even a few months ago. There was nothing there.
He's only 6 for Christ's sake...

This is fu**ed...

So, he had a mass in his gut, as I said. just swinging around in there, until sometime yesterday evening it swung all the way around and punched off some of his intestines. And as a result a significant portion of his small intestines died. There was nothing that could have been done. The closest ER vet hospital that had all the necessary specialists (he also had a heart condition) was far enough that he would have died in the truck on the way. Or, they would have opened him up to everything just being black… the local 24 hour emergency vet hospital we went to called everyone she could to see if anyone had room for him. But also to confer with the various doctors. Apparently they all said the same thing - they were aghast by the X-rays, and said there was only one option….

so, that’s what happened to my Reecey-boy, Reece.
Even my 5 year old, who went to sleep last knowing he had a fun loving, gigantic, energetic hairy shepherd, to waking up to find he’s gone. He actually cried.

Not a good day… we are once again heart broken.

We have a little husky remaining. Nikko. She’s mine. I’ll burn the earth if something tragic happens to her.

Sorry to hear about your loss Shawn.  We have three ourselves.  Our Shepard is getting up there in age, too.  She's overweight, what can I say, they eat better than we do.  We been trying to keep her on dog food made for elderly dogs, which helps, but not enough.  Our dogs are children to us!  Just like yours were to your family.  Sadly, life keeps going.  May a new puppy show up in your lives!  Ken

I dunno... This has been tough. I don't want more animals. But the wife was pining for another Shephard for a while - Reece wasn't much of a guard dog even tho he was huge, where Tally very much was. She felt safer with Tally when I would work at night.
The breeder where we get Reece (we always buy registered pure bread) has puppy shepherds, ready in September... I previously said no, but I'm not sure I have any ground to stand on now that Reece went so suddenly. I suspect we will be on a waiting list before too long.
The price for them has tripled in recent years. $3k now...but, we know their full lineage, they're registered. We do full regular vet workup with a reputable vet here, vaccines, and we insure them. It's a family member investment...

I am really sorry to hear that news, Shawn. Losing a pet is just like losing a person because they fill special places in our hearts. Those losses are hard and they hurt like hell.

Now, I hope you have a nice quiet evening so that you can catch up on some sorely needed sleep.
