Has Illinois gone too far ???
« on: November 28, 2018, 12:17:09 PM »
I recently saw a live Facebook video of a guy who has started a grassroots movement to oust Chicago and a few other counties from Illinois. While a Statewide vote wouldn’t achieve this, his groups plan is to have each county petition to omit Cook county and a few others from Illinois, basically forcing them out into a separate state based on the fact that they’ve broken State law and State Constitution by failing to pass a balanced budget for years. Here’s their website: https://theillinoisseparation.com/
While I believe this is an initiative by those that lean to the Republican side of the fence, they say it’s due to the extremely high tax rates, corruption, and runaway spending.
While I’m neither Republican or Democrat (I think they’re all crooks, I call them Republi-Crats), I’ve had the opinion that Illinois would be way better off if Chicago would go away.
Illinois has 102 counties. In the 1996 Presidential election, the Illinois vote split was listed as 54.3% Democrat and 36.8% Republican with only about 40 counties going Republican. In 2016, those numbers were 55.4% Democrat and 39.4% Republican with only 11 counties going Democrat.
The Chicago tribune gave the statistic that 67% of Illinois voters reside in Cook and collar counties. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/data/ct-illinois-president-results-20161108-htmlstory.html
The gist I get is that if enough counties can put this on their ballot and pass it, they could then petition the US Government to make separate Illinois into two States.
If this was to happen, I wonder what the federal government would do ? It will be interesting.

I don't think it will ever happen either. That shithole called Chicago depends too heavily on revenues from the rest of the state so that everybody can get their welfare checks and other entitlements. Maybe I am a bit jaded, but we see the same crap in Minnesota.

Ok, rant off.

I've seen their newsletters and don't really like the approach they take. Much like calling a Constitutional Convention, people are so divided on many of these issues that what will end up happening is that politicians and big money get what they want changed and what the people want gets white washed over.
Yes, if the people stand fast and demand something in one voice, it will be so, they aren't that stupid. There have been those few times in history where such a thing has happened, but other things are changed as well, most of the time without the peoples understanding or consent. The powers that be have been able to make these changes through lies and half truths and once enacted, are difficult, if not impossible, to change.
