Senior Moment
« on: November 29, 2018, 07:36:37 PM »
I was finishing  an arbor for a project that needed a 5/8 x 11 thread on the end--set up the lathe per the chart :)
Started cutting the thread but was in a hurry and did not check the scratch pass. Store bought nut would not fit so I finally :)get the thread gauge out--not 11tpi. Recheck my setup by the chart, looks good--checked 3 times :) I was tired so locked up the shop and went in the house.
looked up the chart on line. The duh moment--calls for 22t gear not 24t.
Almost all the gear changes for thread cutting use 24t and 48t- ALMOST ALL.
I am claiming a senior moment :)

Happens,
Set up to cut a thread on the end of the piston rod for my steam engine, was going to cut 1/4 fine, looked at the chart read 20 tpi, cut it, went to check with a nut, doesn't start. hum, guess well use a coarse nut.

You might have a senior moment. But Iíve got gremlins. Everything I set down on the work bench disappears! I canít find a darn thing anymore! And if you drop something onto the floor, forget it. Thatís a black hole where itís gone for good!

wait how can you have my gremlins.   They still seem to be in my shop.  Still can't find a new bit I know I purchased recently.
Won a Brand new PM drill chuck at Good of the land,  I know I made it home with it but cannot find it in the shop.

Yeah, I have several "black holes" in my shop.  The moment it hit's the floor, it finds the heaviest thing to hide under, that you cannot move, nor get anything under the craw space to draw it out!  I thought my cat was keeping the gremlins in check, boy was I wrong!

Or get it stuck under a leg or something....  Nothing in my shop will set level on four legs, always one that will have a gap under it.  Door shims usually fill part of the gap, it's the other part of the gap that catches things.

I don't understand why they are called Senior MOMENTS, they seem to last a lot longer than that.

Agree do not know why they are called senior moments when they started a long time ago for me, and don't seem to stop.
