Kijiji shaper
« on: August 04, 2019, 10:51:14 AM »
This guy has some iron for sale for pretty cheap.

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-power-tool/pembroke/milling-machines/1451203404

There's a shaper in there. I asked him if he'd sell it by itself. He said yes. $150...!
He's apparently going out to take some more photos for me right now. It's been stored outside tho... And the other issue is its 3.5 hours away from me. But a shaper for $150.... I won't ever see that again... I hope it's not trashed... I don't know what to do... I await the photos.
The 150 won't be an issue with the wife, the 9 hour day/drive will be the issue.

Edit. I was wrong. I reread the message. It was stored inside.

I don't think you can go wrong for $150.
Scrap cost will be more than that. So you are covered.

I'm having a hard time getting info from him.
I wonder if he'd throw in a milling machine for $200.

You are asking the wrong people, you need to ask him, not us. Make him an offer. You have nothing to lose.

You not on the way to pick up those machines, yet?  Don't let the door hit you in the a$$ on the way out the door!!!
GO GET THEM!!!!  Ask questions when you get there.

The shaper look almost like a Sheldon shaper.  Pretty sure it's not.  I would say it's a 12" stroke shaper.  The vertical
Mill is a copy of a Index 845-875 mill.  Don't turn up your nose on it either.  Tell the warden to look the other direction and put her blinders on, too. ;D

There's a tag on the shaper that says "Ryder".  Does that sound like a brand that anyone has heard of before?

It did say Ryder.

It's all gone. I tried calling the guy to make arrangements and someone had already went and bought everything. The ad had been active for less than 8 hours... Oh well I guess. The wife was not pleased with me over considering this.

thats too bad, the shaper was a bargain, I was looking at the vertical mill (fixed head) only tilts. reminds me of a K&T, or maybe a groton.

I would have probably taken the shaper and a mill. Sucks those amazing deals don't come up closer.
The hard time I got from the bean counters was unreasonable tho...
I'll remind her again when I find a good deal when I'm actually ready for more machinery and it's a lot more than $150........

Shawn,

I believe the shaper above is now in a thread over in the Antique section on Practical Machinists Form.  If anyone is interested in details of his restoration.

okay, I told you the wrong section.  It's in the rebuilding forum.  Here's the link.

Since somebody didn't post the pictures, ;) just a link, I'm not totally sure it's the same one.  But very close to your area, I think.

Got it.  Almost, but like you said, no cigar!

It's interested the differences of machine tools Canadians had over what we had here in the USA.  You guys imported a lot of European made machine tools over the years instead of buying from USA.  Those names do not show up over here hardly at all.  Thanks for sharing Shawn.
