Gisholt Ram Turret Lathe
« on: September 04, 2019, 04:30:29 PM »
33days left! 2more trips and all my shop stuff will be in one place.
Well... except for my Gisholt Ram Turret Lathe.
I just don't have room for her.

Price is very negotiable to somebody who is excited to put her to work.
The tooling is theoretically marketable. So I might hope for a few $ on the tooling. However, that also depends on where she goes....
If a buyer doesn't have a good story, I'll want scrap value for her. Thing is she isn't' yet ready for the graveyard!!
I'll post her to vintage machinery next week. Thought I'd post her here first.

Warning: she weighs in around #5,000 and is in Dayton MN.
More details on request.

Daryl,

It's awful hard to let go of old iron.  I've only seen one or two Gisholt turret lathes in my past.  Dad hated them!  Of course, the one or two he had to deal with were newer one's with all of the hydraulics and such.  The older one that you have is built like a tank!  Yours looks to be in nice shape for its age.  Wish I lived closer to you, I'd take it off your hands.  As it is now, I have no place to put it either.

Maybe one of the members here or those who lurk here might take it off your hands.

Looks like we may have found a home for her 30minutes south of here to one of the local enthusiastic lathe learners.
I'm very please about this possibility.

Update: Saturday a guy will be here to help me load her to his shop.
Sounds like a young guy, eager to learn, recently married and trying to make his way through life.
He's seems genuinely excited about old iron!
I'll be directing him here to MG. I'm sure that you all will be gentle with him as he works toward entry level competence.

Thank you,
Daryl

I have joined! (I'm Zach). After a lot of effort, the Gisholt is sitting in my shop. I couldn't be more excited. There is a lot to do on it before I'm making chips (such as final placement and leveling) but anticipate posts with updates and questions coming. I'm very excited to finally have a lathe and to start learning.

Many thanks to Uglydog for everything. He is a very excellent guy, and I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him in the future.

Welcome aboard Zack!

I've known Uglydog for a few years now.  Him and I have sold each other stuff in the past.  Nice guy!

I dare not add to Daryl's accolades or he'll get a big head. ;D

Glad to hear that you have her sitting at your place, but we're not going to believe you without pics.   ;) The old saying goes that if you don't post pics it didn't happen.  ;D

Anyway, welcome aboard, we still need to get together and work on some of the basics, but we can address that offline.

Welcome Aboard Zach! Nice to have you here.  I'm the resident newb.. and ask all sorts of "silly" questions. Take it from me, your safe here! Ask any question and these guys can set you straight with no guilt.  Sounds like you got some of the best in your corner already.

Thanks everyone! I'm struggling to get pictures uploaded for some reason? I'll have to try again when I have some more time. I'm thinking I'll start a separate thread to update progress on the lathe. But for now, I'm glad I finally signed up in here. Looking forward to learning everything anyone is willing to teach!
