Bought one of these that finally came in from California instead of Houston by Fedex.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/6-x6-Magnetic-Chuck-Fine-Pole-Machining-Wire-Cutting-Line-Cutting-Magnet-Sealed/372321681021?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

I wanted this to mount on my adjustable angle plate so I can use it on my surface grinder.  Well, right out of the box there is no way to mount it to my SG.  So I decided to take it apart to see if I can drill and counter bore holes for SHCS, where I can mount it to my angle plate.  In the process, I damaged a bunch of the nedomite magnetics.  I hope I can find some replacements.  Looks like I'll be able to drill & C'Bore holes without interfering with the magnetics.  We'll see.  I hope I didn't screw it up taking it apart!

Oh, this permanent magnetic chuck looks like it was finished on a belt sander!!! Yeiks!!!

Here's a couple of pictures of the "guts" of the chuck.

Are the magnets usually paper thin...? That looks horrid.

Yeah, the magnetics are .072" thick.  I managed to break three of them.  I get it cleaned up a little, try to post some better pictures tomorrow.

Found some mics on eBay in Canada, which is pretty much the only ebaying I can do anymore - everywhere else is just too expensive.
3 mics. 3-4", 4-5", 5-6", to replace the last of the junky Chinese set I have.
The seller listed them as "Vis", made in Poland. Confirmed by the box they came in. Googling Vic from Poland confirms the look. But the mics themselves are not branded. But they look brand new. New old stock maybe. Carbide anvils, tenths vernier. No ratchet! Wasn't expecting no ratchet. But honestly, that's fine. All of my mics (with the exception of my 0-1" digital mitutoyo) all the ratchets on my mics have different tension and don't really snug nicely. I'd have to tear all my mics apart and adjust all of them... Instead I've just gotten used to the "feel" of all of them and how they differ to get a repeatable comfortable measurement. So, no ratchet on these doesn't disappoint me. They do feel very nice. The 4-5 & 5-6 might still have the cosmoline on them and need to be cleaned and lubed... I need to get a good instrument oil... I actually tend to use air tool oil when I absolutely need to lubricate an instrument as it's the lightest oil I have... I try not to use it very much...

I paid $145 CAD shipped. I'm calling it a good deal. If I found the same from the States right now it would easily be well over $230 shipped.

Shawn,

I have the 0-1, 1-2, and 2-3 mics to go with them if your interested.  I'm pretty sure they are the same brand.  My dad bought them some time in the early 1990's before he passed away.  If interested, let me know.

Ken

Edit:  Nevermind Shawn.  They are Chinese, the Poland made one's dad had were in his Gestner chest and my brother got that.  :41:

Nice set of big mics.  Too bad about the costs to get things in up there.  I wonder why shipping across the border is so expensive?

because they are still based on the British system of the govt sticking their hand deep into your pockets the minute you think you want something.

they never revolted, or had a tea party.

Sounds like there might be a little interest in the new toy so I'll try and start a thread on it after I get some trigger time with it.
Weather's been rather crappy lately with cold and rain/snow.
