I already have a foot section of D2 tool steel in the basket for later. I will be making a 1.685" reamer to make some golf ball cannons.

I would not recommend 12L14 steel for a electric motor shaft.  Way too soft and subject to bending if shaft is struck.

Might try Xometry.   They offer free shipping on orders over $50 but only have  1018 CRS , 4140 and SS.  Id use 4140 on the motor shaft but its pricey.
You can save 10% with Code XS-9860.

Darn,

The 4140 is almost three times the cost of 1018.  Wow!!!

As long as it is cold finished, it will have decent strength to do what you want it for.  Will posse more strength than what you would get in 12L14, but not as much as you would get in 1144.  Not going to get a good finish out of it as you would get with 1144 or 4140.  With a little patients, the finish should be good.
