Prairie tool company G-71
« on: August 17, 2018, 10:10:46 AM »
Bought a prairie tool company G-71 wet grinder on an online auction. Think I got it cheap at $21 +8% buyers fee for grand total of less than $23.
I found these links, but don't know much about it yet.
BTW, is there a difference between a wet stone and an oil stone ?
Wasn't sure if I could use either.
Here's a couple pic's:

yes there is a difference. I can't tell you what.

I can tell you when I bought my delta wetstone grinder I made the mistake of leaving the water in the trough and the wheel egg shaped. I spent a lot of time trying to retrue it. I never could .. about 2 years later it was good after it dried completely out and I retrued it.
Don't leave it sitting in water in one spot. if you need to put it to rest, drain the water.  Or run the wheel every so often.

Yes, that is a great tip. I'd never had realized that would happen either.

I have a couple of those grinders. Not sure on their intended purpose when made? But I use mine for grinding glass watch crystals to size. And does an excellent job of it…Dave
