Home Built Lathe ?
« on: September 13, 2018, 08:01:42 PM »
Was given this gem by a welder I do some machining for. It was given to him but he knows nothing of its heritage. I have no real use for it, my nephew saw it and figures he needs it for a bar ornament.
Neet arrangement with the set of gears to vary the feed rate.

I have a "home made" lathe I built when I got in trouble at 13 years old.  My punishment was to make one. Took about 8 months to build the first version of it.  I'll have to drag it out of the attic this winter and take some pictures and post.

I think for any one young, they should try their hands at making a lathe, like this person did.  It is a learning experience worth doing.  And I didn't have near the tools to work with then as I have now.  Ground my own flycutters to cut dovetails with.  Never heard of today!
